Thanks is to Allah with his help and mercy good deeds are been achieved. After a long process and rigorous efforts,   Aylmer mosque is so pleased to announce to Muslim community the good news of getting the license to celebrate c conformed to  the Islamic laws and regulated by the Director de l’état civil in all the province of Quebec. It is an opportunity to offer to the Muslim family a complete package served by Myloud Tajri. By the grace of Allah Aylmer mosque will offer three services: Celebration of marriages and training for youth and new couples, family mediation and facilitation and conciliation and spiritual guidance.

Celebration of Marriage:

You are newlyweds and you want to make and celebrate your marriage conforming to the Islamic  laws and to the regulation by the Director de l’état civil of Quebec ?

You should follow these steps:

 Step 1 – Preparation of Documents

  • Birth Certificate
  • Valid Photo ID (health card, driver’s license, or passport)
  • Confirmation of Civil Status with:
    • Attestation Letter*
    • Divorce Certificate, or
    • Death certificate of the previous spouse
  • Additional documents may be required

*An attestation of marriage or civil union confirms the presence or absence in the Québec register of civil status of an act of marriage or civil union or notation made in such act. This letter is necessary for any individual who wishes to marry for the first time. The letter can be obtained from the Directeur de l’état civil (The form can be found here). Kindly follow the instructions on the form and apply for the Attestation on your Marriage Status as soon as possible. It can take from 3 to 10 days for you to receive the letter.

Step 2 – Opening of the File

  • Complete the Marriage Ban form
  • Call to make an appointment with the officiant
  • Meet with the officiant for verification of documents and opening of the file
    • Choose the marriage date and location
    • Complete the Publication of the Notice of Marriage
      • Publication of the Notice of Marriage 21 DAYS before the ceremony
        • (Failure to meet this requirement will delay the ceremony)
      • Note: 1 witness will be necessary to verify the information provided
    • Pay the fees

Step 3 – Day of the ceremony

  • Reading of articles of the Civil Code of Quebec
  • Completion and signature of the Declaration of Marriage
  • Nikah
  • 2 witnesses will be necessary to sign the Declaration of Marriage and witness the Nikah
  • A copy of the declaration is provided to the couple

Post Ceremony

  • Aylmer mosque declares the mariage to the Directeur de l’état civil
  • The Directeur sends a letter of confirmation for the reception of the declaration to the address indicated on the Declaration
  • The Directeur registers the Marriage Act (Marriage Certificate) of the couple
  • The couple can apply for the Act after approximately 30 days here: http://www.etatcivil.gouv.qc.ca/en/default.html

Preparation to marriage:

Aylmer mosque is pleased to announce this service of training for the futures spouses and youth in order to sensitize them about the importance and sacredness of the act of marriage. It is also an opportunity for the couples to understand their responsibilities and to know how they should live with each other in harmony and understanding.

Mediation and coaching:

Life is full of challenges and obstacles; this means that some families may have some troubles and conflicts. The best scenario is that the couples are strong enough to solve their problems by their selves. However, in many cases the intervention of a third party neutral is central. Aylmer mosque is offering a professional service of mediation. Our Imam is a third party neutral accredited by the Canadian Institute for Conflict Resolution. He has a bachelor in Islamic studies and social mediation and an alumna from Saint Paul University in the same field.

In addition to mediation, we offer coaching and family counseling. Our Imam has the experience of more than 15 years as and Imam and community leader.
